NOAAH’s Healthy Homes Initiative

The Healthy Homes Initiatives (HHI) Taskforce provides timely, critical education and information to NOAAH members and at-risk communities about the health and environmental hazards, chronic illnesses, diseases and other threats to families living in affordable housing. Taskforce members include NOAAH members, industry agencies and individuals specializing in strategies to eradicate threats such as lean poisoning, mold pests hunger and the skyrocketing cost of medications.

In February 2003, the NOAAH HHI taskforce released its landmark "Report on Environmental Health Hazards in the Nation's Low Income Housing Stock." Its major finding was that African-American children are the main victims with higher rates of asthma-related diseases the primary result. HHI serves as a clearing house for the latest information, training and other resources in NOAAH's efforts to combat such hazards. In 2009, NOAAH's HHI task force will update our 2003 report.
